Barnhartvale is the rural southeast corner of Kamloops, south of Dallas up Barnhartvale Road, settled from 1865 and named in 1909 after Peter Barnhart, conductor on the first CPR train through Kamloops. It joined the city in 1973 but never stopped being country: riding stables, farms and ranches, with the subdivided western sections along Todd Road and Pratt Road on larger lots than anywhere else in the city.
