Barnhartvale is the rural southeast corner of Kamloops, south of Dallas up Barnhartvale Road, settled from 1865 and named in 1909 after Peter Barnhart, conductor on the first CPR train through Kamloops. It joined the city in 1973 but never stopped being country: riding stables, farms and ranches, with the subdivided western sections along Todd Road and Pratt Road on larger lots than anywhere else in the city.

Those lots come with shops, barns and Quonsets, and that is most of the work here. Closed-cell foam sprayed on the inside of a steel shop stops the spring condensation that drips off the purlins, acts as the vapour barrier, and turns the building into one that can be heated in January without the bill doing the same. Houses are 1970s to 2000s and get the standard rim joist and crawl space treatment, often on the same trip as the shop.

Common Barnhartvale jobs: metal shops, pole barns and Quonsets with closed-cell on the skin, attached garages, and house rim joists and crawl spaces done in the same visit. Barnhartvale is also interface country; foam that stays exposed in a shop gets the code's thermal barrier, and a FireSmart assessment is worth booking.
